New Louisiana Law in the US: All Vaping Products Must Be Registered Before Sale

Key point: Louisiana’s new law will restrict vaping product sales, requiring manufacturers to register and obtain approval. Vape shop owners say it will have an economic impact and is too harsh.

A new law in Louisiana will restrict the sale of e-cigarettes, requiring manufacturers to register and obtain approval. E-cigarette shop owners say they will be economically impacted, claiming the move is too harsh.

According to a recent report by KPLC TV, a new law is being drafted in Louisiana, USA, which regulates nicotine products, and it is expected that the number of e-cigarette products on the market will decrease.

The new law is expected to take effect on November 1, requiring all e-cigarette product manufacturers to register their products with the Louisiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission (ATC). Products cannot be legally sold in the state without approval. Meanwhile, a list of unapproved products will be released on November 1.

E-cigarette shop owner Bilal WaRDAriya stated:

“Each store will have to reduce about 30% to 40% of its products. Not only will sales be affected, but employee salaries and our expenses will also be impacted, which will affect our business worse than we can imagine.”

This legislation stems from a bill that doubled the tax on e-cigarettes this year. However, WaRDAriya believes that the restrictions on e-cigarette use are excessive.

He said:

“I think this e-cigarette ban has negative effects on the state in many ways, not just on the people but on the entire state, as we provide a significant amount of tax revenue. Overall, I hope to see this issue resolved, and I hope we can continue selling and maintain the processes we have had for years.”

Other e-cigarette shops in the area also believe this will affect their business, but they think that the state government and consumers will also suffer the same consequences.

To continue selling products, a $100 application fee must be paid for each product, and approval from the ATC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is required.
