Israel cracks down on e-cigarette smuggling, five suspects detained

Five suspects were detained for attempting to smuggle thousands of e-cigarettes into Israel to evade approval from the Ministry of Health and taxes.

On August 31, five suspects were detained for attempting to smuggle thousands of e-cigarettes into Israel to evade approval from the Ministry of Health and taxes.

It is understood that the suspects packaged e-cigarettes as other products that do not require purchase tax, sending them to different addresses and distributing them to various centers across Israel. As the packages arrived, they dispatched couriers to collect these shipments.

The suspects utilized various methods to sell these illegally imported e-cigarette products, with one planning to distribute e-cigarettes through social media networks, while some were also involved in selling e-cigarettes without proper approval and without paying taxes.

They took various measures to conceal their whereabouts, including using phone numbers unrelated to their identities.

Recently, the Israeli Tax Authority has been tracking these illegal smuggling patterns, and regulatory agencies have been monitoring the tax issues in this industry.

In Israel, e-cigarettes are subject to a 145% consumption tax, plus an additional fee of 4.64 Israeli shekels per milliliter.
