Ghana Declares Vaping Product Sales, Advertising, and Recreational Use Illegal
In a July 5 press release, the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority stated that the sale to the public, advertising, and recreational use of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), such as vaping products and other non-nicotine tobacco products, are defined as illegal activities.
Legally sold vaping products may only be those registered as prescription medicines for smoking cessation treatment. Ghana said in the release that it has notified vaping product manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, and retailers to immediately remove all advertisements from social media, billboards, and neon signs, and to stop importing these products. It also stated that failure to comply would lead to consequences, including sanctions.
According to available information, Ghana is a West African country and one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa. It is also one of the world’s most important producers of gold and cocoa.
