Most E-Cigarette Users in China Are Former Smokers
The title of the study is“E-cigarette use among adults in China: Results of repeated cross-sectional surveys in the two years 2015-16 and 2018-19”, aims to determine the trend of e-cigarette use in China and related factors before the implementation of the policy.Researchers evaluated two nationally representative cross-section datasets from the China Chronic Disease and Nutrition Surveillance (CCDNS) Survey launched in 2015 (June 2015 to May 2016) and 2018 (August 2018 to June 2018).
These surveys were conducted at 298 national disease surveillance sites in 31 provinces in the mainland of China, using a multi-stage, stratified, cluster random sampling design that recruited China participants over the age of 18.These results resulted in a survey of 189, 306 China adults in 2015 and 184, 475 China adults in 2018.
E-cigarette use increased by 0.3% in 3 years
Summary data shows that the proportion of adults in China using e-cigarettes has increased from 13% in 2015-16 to 16% in 2018-19 in the past 30 days, equivalent to an increase of 03%.The majority of smokers are current regular smokers, with 93.0% in the 2015-16 survey and 96.2% in the 2018-19 survey.
“Among current smokers, the odds of smoking a day increased (2 1 [1 5 2 8]; p0 0001), smoking more than 20 cigarettes a day (1 8 [1 5 2 3]; p0 0001), and trying to quit smoking (19 [1 5-2 4] in the past 12 months; 15 [1] 3-1 [9] in the past 12 months; p0 0001).Among people who had never smoked, the odds of being aware of the dangers of smoking increased (2 - 4 [12- 47]; p = 0.011), the researchers added.
To this end, the study concluded that smoking rates are still low, but have increased significantly between 5 and 9, and of course, some of these increases (for example,People trying to quit smoking) may be seen as a positive trend.
