FDA Warns E-Cigarettes Not to Claim They Are Safer Than Cigarettes

The U.S. FDA has warned Juul Labs not to market its products as safer than cigarettes. Juul must respond within 15 working days with a compliance plan or face fines, seizure, or an injunction.
Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning to Juul Labs, stating that they must not promote their products as being safer than cigarettes in their marketing activities!

The FDA requires Juul to make corrections within 15 business days and provide a plan on how to comply with U.S. federal laws. The warning indicates that failure to comply with this directive may result in fines, seizures, or injunctions.

FDA spokesperson Dr. Ned Sharpless stated in the announcement: "Regardless of the aspects of tobacco product risks that similar electronic cigarette products may present, the law is clear: if a tobacco product claims to reduce risks, the company must provide scientific evidence that their specific product indeed poses lower risks and harms."
