Ireland’s Minister of State for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy, Jennifer Murnane O’Connor, will today (December 17) begin the Oireachtas process for the Public Health (Disposable Vapes) Bill 2025 on behalf of Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill. The bill has been introduced at Second Stage in Dáil Éireann and proposes a ban on the sale of disposable vapes. The move is intended to reduce smoking and vaping rates and to prevent children and young people from starting to use nicotine.
The Irish government has highlighted the rapid rise of disposable vapes in Ireland, increasing youth vaping rates, and how their low price, ease of use, and appealing design are attracting young people. The bill also addresses the environmental impact of vaping, noting the waste and damage caused by disposable vape products. O’Connor said the bill is a preventive measure aimed at curbing nicotine addiction among young people and preventing long-term dependence.
