According to The Irish Times, Irish Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has proposed banning e-cigarettes in non-tobacco flavors, as well as advertising them in non-specialty retail outlets. He made the proposal on September 9, after the Irish Cabinet approved restrictions on disposable vaping devices.

Donnelly said the proposals are intended to protect children. He believes companies are targeting minors. He said the proposed legislation would allow only one tobacco-flavored e-cigarette to be sold.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said: “About 13% of people aged 12 to 17 in our country have used e-cigarettes in the past 30 days.” He described vaping as “the tobacco industry’s revenge.”

Minister of State for Public Health Colm Burke said the rules are necessary because “many people who use vaping products later go on to smoke cigarettes.”
