According to The Costa Rica Times, Costa Rica has banned vaping in public places such as restaurants, offices, and educational institutions.

The move comes amid a sharp rise in vaping-related illnesses. In 2023 alone, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund recorded 14 cases of vaping-related poisoning, including 9 minors, 7 of whom required hospitalization.
In recent years, e-cigarettes have become increasingly popular among young people. Gabriela Rojas of the Institute on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (IAFA) warned that e-cigarettes contain harmful chemicals.
Another IAFA official, Zeanne Gonzalez, said: “The tobacco industry has cleverly marketed these products, using technology, appealing colors, and a variety of flavors to target minors.”
