British American Tobacco plans to introduce vending machines for vaping devices and oral nicotine products in pubs across the UK.

The company is recruiting at least 12 representatives focused on on-trade venues, with the aim of “securing new locations for vending machines and other business development solutions, ultimately driving sales of specific BAT-related products.”

Target areas include Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Coventry, Crawley, Edinburgh, Exeter, Maidstone, Reading, Royal Tunbridge Wells, and Sevenoaks.

The six-month trial contract will begin on June 24 and is “intended to continue into 2025 and beyond.”

A BAT spokesperson said: “BAT UK is pleased to be involved in a project to sell our Vuse and Velo brands through age-restricted vending machines. At BAT, we have a bold ambition: to build A Better Tomorrow. We will achieve this by reducing the health impact of our business, including by reaching adult consumers with our alternative nicotine products. Vending machines represent an exciting opportunity to further advance our goals.”

Addressing concerns about underage access to tobacco products, BAT said its “machines will use best-in-class age-verification technology to ensure this fundamental principle is upheld.”
