Australia to strictly ban disposable vape imports, while doctors may still prescribe them for patien

Key point: Australia will strictly ban the import of disposable vapes

In Australia, the arrival of the new year also brings new rules, regulations, and adjustments to government benefits.

The most notable of these new rules and policy changes is a ban that took effect on the first day of 2024, prohibiting the import of disposable vaping devices.

The federal government’s crackdown on vaping has only just begun, with further measures to come, including a ban on the personal importation of vaping devices starting in March.

The January changes are aimed at stopping people from bringing disposable vaping devices into Australia, and the ban applies regardless of nicotine content or any therapeutic claims.

To align with the changes to import rules, a new access scheme will be introduced, allowing doctors and nurses to prescribe therapeutic vaping devices where appropriate.
