Multiple studies show that banning vaping will only keep smoking rates stubbornly high
A Yale University study covering 375 areas in the United States and seven states that implemented flavor restrictions to curb youth vaping found that for every flavored e-cigarette not sold, 15 cigarettes were purchased instead.
Even worse, many of the people buying tobacco instead of e-cigarettes were underage.
Quoting findings from a study funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA): “Matching new flavor policy data with retail sales data, we found that for every 0.7ml e-cigarette pod sale reduced due to flavor restrictions, there were 15 additional cigarettes sold.
“Moreover, cigarette sales increased even among some heavily used brands, including those popular with underage teens. Therefore, any public health benefits may be offset by the increase in cigarette sales.”
Contrary to the UK government’s stated goals, banning e-liquid flavors may actually increase youth smoking.
