Vaping robbery prosecutor warns: if you try to rob a store, you should be prepared to be shot
A Republican prosecutor who once pledged to tackle violent crime in Cincinnati has now charged a tobacco shop employee with fatally shooting a 16-year-old suspect during a robbery.
Twenty-nine-year-old Tony Sack is accused of shooting at fleeing suspect Travis Johnson on October 20, prompting Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers to indict him on Tuesday.
In a statement explaining the decision, the prosecutor, who claims to have zero tolerance for crime, insisted that “there is no justification for shooting someone while they are running away.”
The former Hamilton County Juvenile Court judge also added, “Retail theft will not be tolerated,” and even urged the public that “if you try to rob a store, you should expect to be shot.”
As for Sack, he was serving as the manager of VIP Smoke Shop when Travis Johnson and four other suspects rushed in, and he now faces charges of felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
