Round Lake Beach police seek public help in identifying suspect

Key takeaway: Round Lake Beach police are asking for help identifying a suspect in a residential burglary case.

Round Lake Beach police are asking for the public’s help in solving a break-in at a vape shop.

According to police, a vape shop in the 600 block of West Rollins Road was burglarized at about 2:08 a.m. on December 4. The only item stolen was worth $14.99, but police said the front door was smashed to gain entry, and replacing it is expected to cost $1,000.
“The real loss is the property damage,” said Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Ryan Rodriguez.

He said video shows the suspect throwing a rock through the front door, entering the store, taking one item, and then fleeing. Rodriguez said the suspect may have been startled by the security alarm and ran from the scene.

Police described the male suspect as about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing around 140 pounds, with a stocky build. At the time of the theft, the suspect was wearing gray sweatpants, a red T-shirt, white shoes, and carrying a black-and-red backpack.
