Salisbury's Red Power Vape Shop Forced to Replace Unauthorized Signage
A vape shop was forced to change its appearance after public complaints.
The Red Power Shop, which moved into a building on Minster Street earlier this year, installed unauthorized signage and internal lighting.
Wiltshire Council sent a conservation officer to investigate after receiving reports about these changes.
The officer clearly instructed the shop owner on how to modify the store to comply with planning guidelines.
The owner subsequently made the required changes without the council needing to take formal enforcement action.
Councillor Nick Botterill, cabinet member for development management and strategic planning, said: "We provide clear information to anyone considering making unauthorized changes to their shopfront, home, or any other building, not to do so, as we will take firm action."
Botterill explained that the council is prepared to use all available powers to prevent planning violations, including enforcement action and prosecution.
"This case is a great example of our officers working positively with small business owners to resolve issues quickly. They had a firm discussion with the owner, explaining what was done wrong and how to rectify it - the owner resolved the issue within the stipulated time, avoiding any enforcement action," he added.
