Gilchrist to Begin Serving as PMI Chief Communications Officer on January 1, 2024
Philip Morris International (PMI) has announced the appointment of Moira Gilchrist as chief communications officer, effective January 1, 2024. In her new role, she will report to Chief Executive Officer Jacek Olczak.
Also effective January 1, 2024, Marian Salzman, currently senior vice president of global communications, will become senior vice president and chief corporate citizenship officer. After spending more than five years building the global communications function, Salzman will return to the United States to help drive PMI’s business development in the U.S. market.
In a statement, Salzman said: “Moira has been an important member of my team for more than five years, and I am delighted that she will take over leadership of the global communications function as I shift my focus to the U.S. market. She has played a key role in shaping the strategy of PMI’s global communications function as we evolve our business and advance our smoke-free mission. I am excited to see all that she will accomplish as the leader of this function.”
Olczak said: “Over the past 17 years, Moira has demonstrated an exceptional ability to build focused, high-performing teams, always seeking fresh perspectives and insights to foster a culture of curiosity and continuous improvement. Combined with her outstanding communication skills, these qualities will serve the company well as we pursue our ambition of becoming a substantially smoke-free company by 2030, with the goal of generating more than two-thirds of our total net revenues from smoke-free products.”
Gilchrist said: “It is an honor to take the baton from Marian and lead our communications function globally. Marian has completely transformed the way we communicate as a company, and she has had a tremendous impact on me and on the entire team. Our function today is stronger and more dynamic, and I am excited to build on her achievements as we continue moving forward.”
Since joining PMI in 2006, Gilchrist has held several roles, including leading the reduced-risk products corporate affairs team, serving as head of scientific engagement within the R&D function, and working in product development and commercialization.
Before joining PMI, Gilchrist spent more than a decade in the pharmaceutical industry. She was a principal consultant in the pharmaceutical industry consulting groups at PwC and IBM, and also held roles in industry and nonprofit organizations as a pharmaceutical formulation developer. Gilchrist holds a degree in pharmacy and a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
