Indonesia to Include vaping devices in 2024 Inflation Calculation

Indonesia will revise the list of goods used in its 2024 inflation calculation, including adding masks and vaping devices, while some traditional items will be removed.

According to a December 12 report by Indonesian media outlet REPUBLICA, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced that vaping devices will be included in the 2024 inflation calculation because consumption of these products has reached a significant level among the public.

Pudji Ismartini, Deputy Director of Distribution Statistics at Statistics Indonesia (BPS), said: “Changes in public consumption patterns have led to new goods being added to the inflation calculation.”

Based on the base year established by the 2022 Cost of Living Survey, in addition to masks and vaping devices, Ismartini said that a list of 89 new goods has been added, including e-liquid for vaping devices.
