A fruit shop in the UK has been fined £1,345 for selling vapes to minors. The UK government plans to introduce relevant laws to restrict the sale of e-cigarettes to children as soon as possible in the new year.

According to reports from South Wales Argus, Shahram Bakir Ahmed, the owner of the "Four Seasons" fruit shop in Newport city center, was prosecuted by the local council. Earlier this year, the trading standards office received information that a minor under 18 had purchased e-cigarettes from the shop.

Officers had previously visited the shop to explain the regulations regarding the sale of age-restricted products and left a detailed information pack. However, just a month later, the shop was reported again for further issues when a woman purchased a nicotine-containing e-cigarette product, specifically a disposable "Elf Bar".

Subsequently, complaints against the shop continued, and it was closed under an anti-social behavior order for allegedly selling tobacco illegally, selling without a license, and selling e-cigarettes to minors. The closure will remain in effect until January 25, 2024, when the order expires.

Ahmed (32, residing on Oak Road in Caterham, Surrey) was fined £1,345 in court, which includes fines, legal costs, and additional fees. He admitted to some violations.

James Clarke, a cabinet member for strategic planning, housing, and regulations in the city, stated, "We have made it clear to this shop that selling e-cigarettes to anyone under 18 is illegal, and there is absolutely no excuse for selling such products."

Currently, the four governments in the UK are discussing plans to restrict the sale of e-cigarettes to children, and the UK government plans to introduce relevant laws as soon as possible in the new year.

Health Minister Andrea Leadsom told the House of Commons that legislation regarding tobacco and e-cigarettes will soon become law. The bill aims to limit the flavors and descriptions of e-cigarettes to ensure they do not target children.
