Warwickshire Seizes Nearly 20,000 Illegal E-Cigarettes in 18 Months
Nearly 20,000 illegal oversized e-cigarettes have been seized from shops in Warwickshire, UK, over the past 18 months.
According to a recent report by the Leamington OBServer, close to 20,000 illegal e-cigarettes were confiscated from stores across Warwickshire during the past year and a half.
Warwickshire County Council Trading Standards seized 19,600 illegal e-cigarettes from shops across the county. These products contained nicotine volumes above the legal limit, with 2,385 units found in a single store alone.
These illegally sold disposable e-cigarettes often advertise more than 600 puffs — a sign that the nicotine e-liquid volume in the device exceeds the 2ml legal limit.
The 2ml limit is intended to help prevent nicotine poisoning, which can cause nausea, vomiting, and headaches.
An illegal oversized e-cigarette has a wholesale price of around £5, resulting in direct losses of nearly £100,000 for sellers so far.
Andy Crump, Warwickshire’s community safety spokesperson, said:
“Oversized illegal e-cigarettes may contain far more nicotine than is legally permitted under UK standards, so we must remove them from the streets. Warwickshire Trading Standards will continue to advise businesses and take enforcement action where necessary, with the aim of eliminating illegal e-cigarettes and preventing the sale of e-cigarettes to anyone under 18.” Share Link 0
