Newry, Mourne and Down District Council in Northern Ireland supports a ban on disposable e-cigarettes because of high youth usage rates. More than 21% of teenagers in Northern Ireland have used e-cigarettes, and councillors are concerned that these products are too easy for children aged 13 or 14 to obtain.

According to Armaghi, the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council (NMDDC) in Northern Ireland, UK, supports a ban on disposable e-cigarettes, saying they are “targeted at children,” like “banana milkshake.”

According to a council report, a Department of Health and Social Care document released in October showed that more than 21% of teenagers aged 11 to 16 in Northern Ireland reported having used e-cigarettes. Councillor Michael Rice said it is too easy for children aged 13 or 14 to get these products.

"I look forward to hearing the UK government's response to this consultation," he said.

A council report said a Department of Health and Social Care document released in October showed that more than 21% of teenagers aged 11 to 16 in Northern Ireland said they had used e-cigarettes.

The report also showed that the number of British teenagers vaping has tripled over the past three years.

The Westminster government will draft a document aimed at banning disposable e-cigarettes. Disposable e-cigarettes cost an average of £6, while reusable vape kits cost £40.
