WHO: Regulation of New Tobacco Products to Be a Key Topic at COP10
The World Health Organization said that regulation of new tobacco products will be a key topic at next year’s international tobacco control conference, with plans to develop stricter rules and health guidance.
According to a report by ECigIntelligence on November 14, Adriana Blanco, head of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC), said during an online press conference that one of the core topics at next year’s COP10 and MOP3 international tobacco control meetings will be the regulation of emerging e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and nicotine products.
Speaking at WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, Blanco said the organization plans to formulate stricter rules and health guidance to manage the use of new tobacco and nicotine products. This will be prioritized at next year’s Tenth Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP10) to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and the Third Session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP3) to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products, both to be held in Panama.
