Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh has called for immediate regulation of vaping devices; her ministry has designated the complex as a smoke-free zone and banned vaping.

According to a November 21 report by The Star, Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh said that e-cigarettes and e-liquid must be regulated immediately through future rules. She said this is important for athletes and for society as a whole.

In her closing remarks at a ministerial meeting on the same day, she said her ministry had issued an order designating the complexes under its jurisdiction as smoke-free zones and banning vaping.

Yeoh said e-cigarettes are among the items prohibited from being brought into stadiums. Other items include cigarettes, lighters, power banks, and umbrellas, as they are classified as items that could endanger others.

She said: “Security officers will conduct body checks on people entering the stadium, while Health Ministry officers will monitor and fine anyone smoking or vaping inside the facility.”
