Korean Tax Authority Reveals List of 70,000 Tax Delinquents, Top Debtor Owes KRW 19 Billion in Cigar
South Korea has released a new list of high tax delinquents, including 70,000 individuals and a total tax debt of 4 trillion KRW. A 40-year-old named Kim Jun-ryeol has failed to pay tobacco consumption taxes amounting to 19 billion KRW for two consecutive years. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will take measures against large tax delinquents, including travel bans and property seizures.
According to Naver on November 15, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and local governments have released a new list of individuals and companies with significant and habitual tax delinquencies, totaling around 70,000 people and exceeding 4 trillion KRW.
The individual with the highest tax debt is Kim Jun-ryeol (40 years old), who has failed to pay tobacco consumption taxes worth 19.016 billion KRW for two consecutive years.
The ministry also plans to take measures against tax delinquents, such as travel bans (for debts exceeding 30 million KRW) and property seizures (for debts exceeding 50 million KRW). For large tax delinquents who intentionally conceal assets, the ministry will strengthen asset tracking investigations and take other measures to compel them to pay their debts.
