Russia’s Q3 heated tobacco sales fall 19% as international tobacco companies stop launching new devi
From July to September 2023, the number of heated tobacco devices purchased by Russian consumers fell 19% year-on-year, while demand for tobacco sticks declined by 1%.
According to data recently released by Russian fiscal data operator "Платформа ОФД", purchases of heated tobacco devices in Russia dropped 19% year-on-year from July to September 2023, while demand for tobacco sticks fell 1% over the same period.
In the Moscow region, sales of heated tobacco devices decreased by 13%. However, purchases of tobacco sticks increased by 4%.
Nationwide, the median price of heated tobacco devices rose 20% to 1,477 rubles (about RMB 117). In Moscow, prices increased 16% to 1,601 rubles (about RMB 126).
"Платформа ОФД" said that consumers' strong interest in heated tobacco devices is weakening.
At the same time, on November 3, Japan Tobacco International announced that it would no longer launch next-generation heated tobacco devices in the Russian market.
It is understood that well-known heated tobacco devices still sold in the Russian market currently include British American Tobacco's Glo Hyper, Philip Morris International's IQOS, and KT&G's LiL Solid.
