Public Schools in Jackson County, US Launch Anti-Vaping Education Campaign

Key point: Jackson County public schools will launch a campaign to educate and warn parents and caregivers about the harms of teen vaping, including brochures, ads, and community education events.

Jackson County public schools are launching a campaign aimed at educating and warning parents and guardians about the dangers of youth using e-cigarettes, including brochures, advertisements, and community education activities.

According to WLOS, public schools in Jackson County, USA, are set to launch a campaign to educate and warn parents and guardians about the dangers of youth using e-cigarettes.

The campaign will start this month and continue until the end of the year, targeting the behavior of using e-cigarettes, which involves inhaling and exhaling vapor produced by e-cigarettes or similar devices. The campaign will include brochures, flyers, billboards, social media, public service announcements, and educational activities throughout the school district.

On November 5, the event will also hold a free community education session in collaboration with nationally recognized speaker "Tall COP," who has over 20 years of experience in preventing and educating about substance abuse. In his presentation, "Tall Cop Says Stop," he dedicates thousands of hours each year to professional and community training on drug and alcohol prevention, focusing on educating parents, educators, and others to prevent youth substance abuse.

Jackson County education officials stated that this campaign, initiated by the district's health advisory committee, is a response to numerous concerns and complaints from principals, teachers, and students regarding e-cigarettes and their contents—thus the inhaled substances.

The school district wrote in a statement released on October 26, 2023, "The use of e-cigarettes has also significantly increased office referrals, in-school suspensions, and disciplinary actions, particularly related to issues caused by e-cigarette use on school buses."
