To control e-cigarette use on campus, the Dayton Public School District in the United States plans to introduce high-tech detection equipment and use smart sensing technology to combat e-cigarette use in schools.
News flash: According to recent reporting by WHIO, the school district in Dayton, Ohio, USA is considering introducing a new technology that could help address student e-cigarette use. The district has proposed a new plan to detect e-cigarette use in schools. The plan would use smart sensor products to help catch students who secretly go to bathrooms, locker rooms, and stairwells to vape.
When possible use of e-liquid is detected, the information will be uploaded to a cloud system connected to the entire school building to record the time and location of the incident.
The school could also connect the system to its existing camera network. Eric Wiccum, a representative of the smart sensor company, explained at a recent school board meeting, “This can create a two-minute video clip showing which students walked into the restroom and which students walked out.”
At present, the smart sensing system has not yet been introduced into the district, and the district has not decided whether to move forward with the plan.
