According to news on October 16 from Veja, if Brazil can regulate the e-cigarette market, it could have a major impact on the country’s economy and create approximately 115,000 new jobs. Standardizing Brazil’s e-cigarette market could generate a payroll base of more than 20 billion reais (about RMB 29.3 billion), while also contributing around 673 million reais in revenue to public finances.

The study further noted that whether the products are domestically made or imported, if the e-cigarette market is regulated, estimated annual sales could reach 16 billion reais. However, back in 2009, Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) announced a ban on e-cigarettes, leaving the market in an illegal state. Even so, according to IPEA data, there are currently about 2.2 million e-cigarette users in Brazil. Against this backdrop, the Brazilian Senate was set to hold a public hearing on Thursday, September 28, to discuss the possibility of regulating the e-cigarette market.
