Number of e-cigarette users in Russia has tripled over four years

In the past four years, the proportion of nicotine-dependent users of e-cigarettes has nearly doubled.

According to a report by gubdaily on September 27, a survey conducted by the job service SuperJob revealed that the proportion of nicotine-dependent e-cigarette users has nearly doubled over the past four years. Representatives from 500 companies and 2,500 economically active Russians participated in this study.

21% of respondents only use e-cigarettes, while 16% use both e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes. In 2019, these figures were only 8% and 12%, respectively. Women (33%) are more likely to use e-cigarettes than men (14%), with those under 34 years old showing the highest preference for e-cigarettes. Russians over 45 tend to use traditional tobacco products—cigarettes, cigars, and pipes.

On September 4, a survey by Romir showed that if cigarette prices rise, Russians are prepared to purchase illegal tobacco. The survey indicated that if cigarette prices increase by 10%, 61% of respondents are willing to switch to illegal products.

Starting from June 1 of this year, several restrictions on e-cigarette sales took effect, and from March 1, 2024, the sale of e-cigarettes containing flavoring additives will be completely banned.
