The Indonesian Vaping Association (AKVINDO) President Paido Siahaan stated that he supports the promotion of alternative tobacco products in Indonesia as one of the solutions for adult smokers seeking to quit their smoking habits.

In a media interview, Paido stated that most alternative tobacco products aim to reduce health risks associated with smoking, and he acknowledged that convincing adult smokers to switch to alternative tobacco products is not easy due to the prevalence of misinformation about these products.

Therefore, AKVINDO actively provides accurate and credible knowledge to reduce negative perceptions and misinformation. Additionally, they utilize social media as a medium for education.

“As a consumer association, we conduct educational campaigns to spread information that helps the public understand the truth about alternative tobacco products. Through creative and persuasive promotional activities, the consumer association can build support and trust for alternative tobacco products among the public.”

Scientific research has proven that alternative tobacco products, such as heated tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, and nicotine pouches, carry lower risks compared to traditional cigarettes. Therefore, to help adult smokers quit, they need accurate access to information.

Furthermore, the association pointed out that the latest report from November 2022 confirmed the effectiveness of alternative tobacco products, especially electronic cigarettes, in helping adult smokers quit smoking.
