On April 22, the UK mainstream media outlet The Mirror published a report titled "Exclusive: Tobacco Company Submits Report to Trade Standards Officials Triggering 'E-Cigarette War'", which mentioned the attitude of trade standards officials regarding the related events: "The real issue is illegal products (not overfilling)."

The Mirror cited anti-smoking organizations regarding British American Tobacco's responsibilities, stating, "One of the world's largest tobacco companies is waging an e-cigarette war by reporting a smaller competitor to trade standards officials."
The Mirror also reported that after the Daily Mail exposed ELFBAR's overfilling issue, which led to its removal from shelves, British American Tobacco contacted the regulatory agency (trade standards) and stated that it would cooperate to ensure that relevant regulations are effectively enforced.
The report stated that weeks later, British American Tobacco claimed to have tested Elfbar 600 and Lost Mary e-cigarettes, discovering 71 batches of non-compliant products. British American Tobacco's representative Sam Millicheap wrote to trade standards: "I hope you find this information valuable for any enforcement actions."
However, The Mirror reported that a trade standards official indicated that no action had been taken, adding, "The real issue is illegal products (not overfilling)."
The Mirror also mentioned that Elfbar claimed British American Tobacco's complaint was made after its acquisition offer was rejected.
