Today, news reports indicated that a jury trial against JUUL and its parent company Altria began at 9 AM on Monday in Minnesota.
The state alleges that the vaping and tobacco companies engaged in consumer fraud, negligence, and created a public nuisance while getting a generation of children addicted to nicotine.
Although Juul and Altria attempted to dismiss the case, Minnesota is one of 19 states suing tobacco retailers. Minnesota is the first to go to trial.
The lawsuit was filed after a 2019 study found that over 25% of 11th-grade students in Minnesota regularly used e-cigarettes.
The case is expected to last three weeks.
