Gas Mods G.R.1 RDA Atomizer Review
Gas Mods previously launched the Nixon Rdta atomizer, which became a unique and affordable option in the "group goods" category due to its outstanding craftsmanship and excellent user experience. The second atomizer they released has already sold out in foreign markets and is now officially available in the domestic market, which is the G.R.1 RDA that I will share with you today.
This atomizer comes in a paper box design, complete with an independent anti-counterfeiting code and information about the official website.
Upon opening, you will find two hex wrenches, easily replaceable parts, and a brand sticker among the accessories.
The G.R.1 RDA is a 22mm dripping atomizer that boasts a high aesthetic appeal while remaining compact. In a market dominated by 24mm atomizers, this is undoubtedly a refreshing presence.
Thus, Gas Mods has also developed a separate 24mm cap and a three-in-one 810 drip tip for this dripping product, similar to the Nixon RDTA.
The materials for the caps include PEI, black, and transparent acrylic. The image above shows the device with the cap and drip tip installed.
In addition to the 24mm cap and drip tip, it also comes with seven different colored caps and three sets of differently colored 510 drip tips available for purchase, making the G.R.1 RDA more versatile when paired with devices.
The bottom of the atomizer features an individual serial number and shows that it comes with a pre-installed bottom fill screw, indicating its clear purpose.
When disassembled, the main components are as shown in the image above. It is important to note that the factory-installed cap is made of POM material and has a frosted texture, making it visually similar to metal components; the drip tip is a 510 specification and is very short to match the overall compact design, which may sacrifice some comfort.
The base of the G.R.1 RDA continues the design of the Nixon RDTA, with two hex screws located within the electrode posts. Its juice well is quite deep, allowing it to store more e-liquid in a limited space, and the bottom fill feature works effectively. Additionally, there are two grooves on the opposing sides for the wire rod to rest on, making it easier to install coils. The most distinctive feature is its airflow design, which appears to be side airflow externally but has two "pig nose" components inside that provide an upward angle, creating a bottom airflow structure.
Besides this appealing airflow design, another highlight is that it comes with an additional large airflow kit, making the difference in draw very noticeable. Combined with different wire data, this makes the G.R.1 RDA more playful.
Changing the airflow kit is very simple; just use the hex wrench provided in the accessory pack to replace it, and upon removal, the craftsmanship is evident.
For coil installation, you can place the coil on the wire rod and secure it in the slots on the base. However, due to the structure of the electrode posts, the G.R.1 RDA still requires the locking screws to be removed to secure the coil, which is slightly inconvenient.
For experienced users, bottom airflow is undoubtedly the most reliable airflow design for flavor performance. After installing the coils, you can see that the angled airflow kit effectively converts side airflow into bottom airflow.
When wicking, there is no need for excessive caution; just ensure that the airflow is not blocked.
The coil compatibility range is quite extensive, with A1 wire ranging from 0.4mm to 0.6mm, and complex wires such as single-core, dual-core, or triple-core clapton coils can be used with resistances above 0.2Ω, wound in 5-9 turns for use. Coupled with two different specifications and two different airflow kits, along with various cap sizes, the G.R.1 RDA can certainly withstand the experimentation of flavor enthusiasts.
When using the small airflow kit, the draw will feel tighter, enhancing the sharpness of the flavor without distorting the taste of the e-liquid. In this case, it is recommended to use the 22mm cap with a resistance of no less than 0.4Ω; while using complex wires, it is advisable to use the large airflow kit with a 24mm cap, as the sufficient cooling effect will prevent the heat from dissipating the essence of the e-liquid, allowing the flavor to reach its full potential. However, overall, it is not recommended to go below 0.2Ω, as both airflow kits have a draw resistance that is much higher than dual-core dripping products.
The G.R.1 RDA has gained popularity in foreign markets as a "group" product not only due to its affordable price but also because of its excellent user experience. The two different airflow options provide a level of playfulness that exceeds similar products, and the diverse caps and drip tip accessories allow it to withstand the experimentation of both new and experienced users. The G.R.1 RDA has officially launched in the domestic market, and if you are a flavor enthusiast who enjoys tinkering, it is undoubtedly a product worth purchasing.
