SMOK Devilkin 225W Blade Kit Review

As a VAPOR, the tool we interact with the most should be the device, so a good grip is very important. Just like shoes, high heels may look great, but only the wearer knows how comfortable they are. Many products represented by BMI have made their boxes too angular to enhance aesthetics, and combined with the weight of dual-battery boxes, the appearance is tougher, but the feeling of cutting into the hand is quite serious. I desire aesthetics, but I also desire comfort; to achieve both, we must start from design and craftsmanship. So let's take a look at this new SMOK product, the Devilkin Blade Kit, which features an ergonomic design. Is it what we want?

1. Packaging

The packaging continues the traditional pull-out style with a top and bottom cover. The front features a rendering of the actual device, and the main color of the packaging box corresponds to the color of the device, so you can know the style and color of the actual product without opening the package. SMOK has been quite thoughtful in this regard.

The back contains product information, accessory information, and warnings, while the side displays anti-counterfeiting information and a QR code for the brand.

Since this is a kit, the contents are quite rich: Devilkin device, TFV12 Prince atomizer, pre-installed 0.4Ω core, spare 0.12Ω core, spare glass tank, rubber rings, USB data cable, manual, battery warning card, and warranty card.

The device has a power range of 1-225W, supports resistance from 0.1 to 2.5 ohms, supports voltage from 0.5 to 9V, measures 86mm in height, 49.6mm in width, and 34.2mm in thickness, with a bare weight of 172.1 grams. When paired with two C5A batteries, it weighs 267.8 grams, giving it a certain heft in hand. As a dual-battery device made of metal, both its size and weight are within my personal acceptable range.

The overall shape of the device is quite rounded, with curves visible everywhere. The exterior features a matte finish that is less prone to fingerprints and has a slight anti-slip effect. The protrusion at the front, resembling a knife tip, may be the origin of its "Blade" name. The edge of the "knife tip" is coated with a colorful glossy finish, and the 1.3-inch display is wrapped within it. The "+" and "-" buttons and USB port are designed at the bottom of the knife tip, which is intended to enhance design unity, but together they resemble the head of E.T. The top of the Blade features three heat dissipation holes.

The back design echoes the front, also featuring a "blade-like" protruding panel. The center of the panel showcases SMOK's traditional silver-white honeycomb pattern, complemented by a subtle starlight effect, giving it a shiny appearance. The SMOK brand name and the DEVILKIN kit name are located at the top and bottom of the panel, respectively, and three heat dissipation holes are also designed at the top of the Blade. One side of the device features the familiar large arc-shaped fire button, while the other side has a slightly tapered design in the middle, providing a good grip.

The top features a 510 connector with a diameter of about 20mm, with a gold-plated adaptive electrode in the center. Due to the small size of the connector and its flush design with the surrounding area, while there are gaps to prevent the atomizer from getting stuck, it does not prevent the surrounding paint from getting scratched, so use it with care. Unlike the side panel battery compartment design of the SMOK X-PRIV series, the battery compartment switch for the Devilkin device is located at the bottom, using a spring lock. After installing the batteries, simply press down the compartment cover, which is very convenient.
SMOK Devilkin 225W Blade Kit Review The battery compartment cover and interior both have indicators for the positive and negative terminals, and the interior of the battery compartment features two insulated plastic tubes. Therefore, even if the batteries are installed incorrectly or have damaged insulation, there is no danger. The inner wall of the plastic tubes is very smooth, preventing any scratches on the battery wrap. However, due to the design of the tube diameter being very close to the battery tolerance, if the battery has two layers of wrap, it may not install smoothly.

3. Operation and Functions

The interface looks similar to that of the X-PRIV, but with slightly different layouts, both using a one and two-level menu design. The main screen displays common information such as battery level, power, firing duration, resistance, voltage, mode, and puff count. The operation method is also basically the same: press the fire button five times to enter the secondary menu for settings, long press the fire button to switch between different options in the secondary menu, and short press to confirm.

The first page is for power and temperature control, supporting three materials: TI, NI, and SS stainless steel. The adjacent "M" is for memory mode, and the bottom shows power and special effects, which are divided into three types: S (soft), N (normal), and H (hard).

The second page is for puff count settings, allowing you to set and clear puff counts. Of course, you can also set a target value, and when this value is reached, it will prompt MAX PUFF, preventing firing.

The third page is for interface color, screen timeout duration, and auto-lock settings.

The fourth page is the shutdown page. Since the Devilkin, like the X-PRIV, locks the device by pressing the fire button five times while in the on state, a separate shutdown page has been set up.

The device also has comprehensive protection features, and pressing the fire button five times also locks the device, preventing accidental firing while carrying it. However, while the atomizer recognition function is provided, it does not automatically suggest a matching power, which is a slight flaw.

4. Atomizer

The atomizer paired with the Devilkin device is the TFV12 Prince, measuring 63mm in height, 28mm in diameter, and weighing 60g, with an astonishing capacity of 8ml.

Continuing the classic structure of the TFV series atomizers, it consists of only five parts: drip tip, top cap, atomizing core, glass tank, and base. The drip tip features an 810 connector with a large diameter to meet the demand for large vapor clouds, and its honeycomb pattern visually echoes the device's design.

The integrated top cap features a rotating push-open design, simplifying the structure and making it more convenient to operate. The top cap is engraved with the direction for rotation to open and has a button to prevent accidental rotation; the top cap can only be opened by pressing the button, effectively preventing leakage when placed in pockets or bags. The top of the cap features a crown-like pattern, not only for decoration but also to prevent slipping when unscrewing.

The base features an L-shaped large rubber ring, a rubber ring at the bottom of the atomizing core, and rubber rings at the middle and bottom of the top cap, all reflecting SMOK's efforts to prevent leakage.

5. User Experience

Thanks to the large fire button and ergonomic design, whether holding it normally or upside down, fingers can comfortably press the fire button. Moreover, due to the very rounded exterior, there is no cutting feeling regardless of the grip position. You can even hold the entire device in your palm and press the fire button using just the strength of your thumb, without feeling any strain or inconvenience; personally, I feel like I've unlocked many new grips. Since the Devilkin is a dual-battery device and the chip is not significantly different from the X-PRIV, those interested in firing speed and burst testing can refer to our post about the X-PRIV.
SMOK Devilkin 225W Blade Kit Review 6. Conclusion

The Devilkin Blade Kit, as a device characterized by ergonomics, offers a good grip and versatile holding positions as its greatest advantages. The powerful output of 225W combined with the TFV12 Prince atomizer's 8ml capacity not only provides a longer-lasting experience but also delivers an ultimate vaping enjoyment. The atomizer, from pre-made cores to RBA cores, can witness the entire journey from novice to expert. Overall, the upgrade in hand feel is the most significant change brought by the Devilkin Blade Kit, and the chip has not undergone significant changes compared to other dual-battery products from SMOK, making it more suitable for those looking to upgrade from single-battery or other low-power devices.
