Mango Smoothie 888 Improved Today I’m reviewing 888 Mango Smoothie, a Malaysian e-liquid. This bottle was brought back from Malaysia, so it’s 100% authentic. As for the ones you bought, I can’t say. As for appearance, the packaging is pretty good. It has a laser anti-counterfeit label, as shown below. After opening the cap and taking a sniff, the top note is a rich, fresh mango aroma, with a slight cooling note mixed in, making you want to vape it right away. But I stayed calm and applied it to a scent strip first, as shown below. The mango fruit aroma is full, though the green note is not very natural. Still, the overall balance is pretty good. After leaving the scent strip for 5 minutes and smelling it again, the green note had disappeared, leaving only the mango fruit aroma and the cooling note. Next, I filled the tank and started testing it... subtank + VT I blew out the first few puffs. Why? Because at the beginning, the coil isn’t evenly saturated yet, so the flavor doesn’t represent the e-liquid’s true profile. I inhaled slowly. As the vapor passed through my throat, I could feel a slight mango taste, followed by a rather strange icy irritation around the area just above the Adam’s apple. When I exhaled through my nose, the mango aroma became clear, but my nasopharynx was also being hit by that same odd cooling sensation. Vapor production was average, not very large. On the second puff, that slight mango sensation during inhalation was gone, probably covered up by the cooling effect from the first puff. What followed was that same strange icy feeling. The exhale still had the same clear mango aroma. I’m not sure how you all feel about this cooling sensation—whether you find it strange or not—but personally I don’t like it very much. The stimulation is too direct and not well balanced. It doesn’t have that gentle, comfortable coolness you get from eating a mint candy. Summary: Packaging: 8/10 Aroma: 8/10 Vaping experience: 6/10 Instrument analysis shows that the cooling effect uses WS-23 coolant, single-note, at as much as 1.3%. Malaysian e-liquid is still not very mature, including the work of flavorists. The fact that the Malaysian e-liquid market is still in its early stages has been confirmed across different products. A cooling effect created with a single coolant is not balanced enough—this is basic flavor formulation. The coolant level is too high, and that doesn’t even include the percentage of mango flavoring used. (Tip: commercially sold flavor concentrates usually contain only about 1% to 10% active aromatic components, with most of the rest being PG; while the active aroma content in an e-liquid is generally 0.1% to 1%.) Improvements: 1. First, remove the yellow color. There are usually two reasons for yellow e-liquid: either the sugar content is too high, or colorants were used. Does it look nice? Not necessary. In my opinion, users need safety first and flavor second. Both of those factors are undesirable, so remove them. 2. Improve the cooling effect. The after-feel of the coolant is too strange, and it’s not suitable for long vaping sessions. The way to improve it is to reduce the proportion of WS-23 and then balance it with other cooling ingredients. 3. Personally, I feel the vapor production is not very large. 888 has a VG content of 40%, while I usually vape liquids with 60% VG. Increasing the VG ratio to 60% would increase vapor production. This is different from users adding VG themselves, because adding VG afterward lowers the concentration of the flavor components. 4. Add a creamy note. Personally, I think adding a little milk or cream flavor would be nice. You can also add whatever note you like, just make sure to calculate the ratio properly! A question from users: Some people have asked me before why they can’t recreate the cooling effect of Mango Smoothie in DIY mixing, so here’s the answer. The cooling agents sold on Taobao usually do not clearly state their ingredients or concentrations, and the sellers often don’t know either, so it’s normal that you can’t get any useful answer from them. 888 uses WS-23 coolant, and the dosage for high-purity material is 1.3%. If you have the same raw material, you can achieve the same cooling sensation as 888. (Tip: WS-23 comes in powder form. If you don’t have testing equipment on hand, it’s not recommended to buy and use it directly.) Finally, here’s a look at the improved all-day vape!!
