Leonardo Seen Vaping at Art Basel
When Leonardo appeared at the Art Basel fair in Miami Beach last December, he purchased a Frank Stella artwork for just under one million dollars. On the 16th, Leonardo DiCaprio began searching for art again. He was spotted at the Basel Art Fair, a prestigious art exhibition in Switzerland. The 40-year-old actor kept a low profile throughout, viewing paintings while puffing on a rechargeable e-cigarette.
The star, known for his role in "The Departed," dressed casually in a blue T-shirt, dark jeans, and skateboard shoes, with a black sweater tied around his waist. He sported a thick beard, tied his hair in a ponytail, and wore a hat pulled down over his eyes—hoping not to be recognized while perusing the expensive artworks. Art enthusiasts are gathering in Switzerland this week for the 2015 Basel Art Fair, showcasing artworks valued at approximately £3.4 billion.
This is the largest contemporary art exhibition in the world, attracting many wealthy art collectors, including celebrities from Hollywood. Leonardo is a passionate environmentalist and recently donated a piece by Israeli artist John Gerrard to the Los Angeles Museum of Art.
The LED artwork titled "Solar Reserve" was installed outside Lincoln Center in New York last year and will also be exhibited in the unlimited section of this Basel painting fair.
Leonardo hopes to raise awareness about environmental issues through this artwork, which depicts solar energy installations in Nevada.
