According to news from the Chinese electronic cigarette industry: As the number of "vaping enthusiasts" increases, the demand for designated vaping areas in public places has become stronger. From January 24 to November 30, 2013, London Heathrow Airport opened the world's first dedicated vaping area. The electronic cigarette manufacturer "Gamucci" established the first "smoking area" for vapers at the airport.
The newly opened indoor "smoking area" covers 323 square feet and is located in the international departure lounge of Terminal 4 at Heathrow Airport, accessible only to smokers aged 18 and over.
Due to smoking restrictions, the sales of electronic cigarettes have been on the rise in recent years. Battery-operated electronic cigarettes allow smokers to inhale nicotine-infused vapor without the harmful tar components found in traditional smoking, thus reducing the health risks associated with conventional smoking and becoming an alternative to it.
Governments around the world are currently working to formulate regulations to standardize these products. The UK government plans to classify electronic cigarettes as medical products starting in 2016, but the European Parliament rejected a proposal in November 2013 to extend the UK's approach to the entire EU.
Industry insiders analyze that although the sales volume of electronic cigarettes currently accounts for only 1% of total cigarette sales in the United States, their sales reached $2 billion by the end of 2013.
