Major Discovery: Hope for Smokers With COPD
“Smokers with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have shown significant improvement in their condition after switching to e-cigarettes.”

This is the conclusion of a six-member research team led by Dr. Carlo Polosa, who published their findings in a respiratory journal! Compared to smoking cigarettes, the research team provided a series of long-term evidence for the benefits of using e-cigarettes.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a common chronic disease characterized by airflow obstruction, which can further develop into cor pulmonale and respiratory failure. It is associated with abnormal inflammatory responses to harmful gases and particles, with high morbidity and mortality rates. The incidence rate globally for those over 40 years old has reached 9% to 10%.
In 2017, Robert Bals, who led the Karl research team at Saarland University in Germany, compiled the research findings and submitted them for publication in a journal. Smokers with COPD successfully halted the number of exacerbations and the progression of respiratory deterioration after using e-cigarettes.
Opponents argue: “There is no objective or subjective evidence to prove whether e-cigarettes are beneficial for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Many believe that the improvement in health after switching to e-cigarettes is due to the cessation of smoking.”

However, this research team primarily sought to investigate the long-term effects on smokers who switched to vaping and their respiratory diseases. The findings will serve as a strong rebuttal to scholars who oppose vaping, claiming that “vaping may have long-term harmful effects on users.”
“It is perplexing that anti-smoking groups and many health organizations do not encourage smokers to use e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation product,” said Siegel, “while ironically, some tobacco companies are encouraging smokers to use e-cigarette products.”
Dr. Carlo's research team has shown through long-term studies that “e-cigarettes are a very useful smoking cessation product and have a significant improvement effect on smokers with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.”
Compared to users of e-cigarettes who still have COPD, cigarette smokers may experience worsening symptoms and physical activity limitations.
Using e-cigarettes helps smokers with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease reduce their smoking intake or assists them in quitting smoking altogether. It is hoped that smoking patients can switch to vaping soon to help alleviate their condition.
