In recent years, as people's health awareness has increased, more and more smokers have switched to e-cigarettes, which are considered healthier than traditional cigarettes. However, are e-cigarettes really healthier than cigarettes?

A report from the UK health department indicates that e-cigarettes are relatively healthier than cigarettes, with harm reduced by 90%. Furthermore, the UK government actively advocates for the use of e-cigarettes in offices and public places.

However, the Hong Kong health department disagrees. Although there have long been regulations prohibiting the import of e-cigarettes, the increasingly popular e-cigarettes have entered the Hong Kong market through purchasing agents. This not only bypasses customs duties but also attracts young people to try them. The Hong Kong government plans to strengthen regulation of e-cigarettes through taxation and other means to reduce the risk of chronic diseases among citizens.

According to a recent report by Hong Kong's Ta Kung Pao, amidst heated discussions about whether to completely ban e-cigarettes, a group surveyed over 3,000 parents, revealing that 82% of parents support a complete ban on e-cigarettes and other emerging tobacco products, while 69% believe that e-cigarettes will attract young people to use them. A young man who has quit smoking stated that the number of his friends who smoke e-cigarettes has multiplied because they find it 'cool'.

Reportedly, the chairman of the Family and School Cooperation Committee, Tong Siu-chi, along with the Hong Kong Federation of Parent-Teacher Associations, surveyed 3,374 parents of primary, secondary, and kindergarten students from late June to early July. The federation announced the survey results on the 8th, showing that 67% of respondents are concerned that their children will use e-cigarettes, citing that 'they see it as a trend indicator, and young people have weaker self-control.' Additionally, 83% support the Hong Kong government establishing a comprehensive smoking ban timetable as soon as possible. Tong Siu-chi pointed out that parents have little knowledge about e-cigarettes, and the packaging of e-cigarettes is varied and has a faint smell, making it difficult to detect.

He stated that there are online tutorials for performing tricks with e-cigarettes, which make his friends think it is 'cool' and led to an increase from one or two people to four or five trying e-cigarettes, and he is also eager to try.

A-Dong expressed that although he has quit smoking for two years, the craving still exists, and he can only rely on his willpower to control it. He hopes the Hong Kong government will completely ban e-cigarettes to prevent more young people from having the opportunity to try them.
