VOOPOO E-cigarette Company Spends $305,000 to Buy a Domain
The electronic cigarette brand VOOPOO spent $305,000 (approximately 2.13 million RMB). Recently, VOOPOO announced that it will change its two domain names for China and overseas. The new domain names will be "voopoo" (for domestic) and "voopoo" (for overseas).
VOOPOO revealed that the new domain names are expected to officially replace the old ones on December 18 of this year.
Currently, VOOPOO's official domain names remain as the previously used "voopootech" (domestic) and "voopootech" (overseas).
Comparing the differences between the new and old domain names, aside from moving "cn" to the end of the domestic domain, VOOPOO's new domain mainly omits the four letters "tech" (which means "technology").
The difference of four letters is the distinction between the new and old domain names, which translates to a difference of over 2 million RMB.
You might think it's like a "football," but in fact, it's VOOPOO electronic cigarettes.
It is reported that VOOPOO spent $305,000 to acquire the two new domain names, which is approximately 2.13 million RMB.
Why spend so much money just to change a domain name?
For VOOPOO, money is not important; the brand is what matters.
Regarding this domain acquisition, VOOPOO stated that it is a self-encouragement of its brand value and a fulfillment of its sense of mission.
To give a simple example, Taobao is currently the most popular e-commerce shopping platform in China, with the URL "taobao." However, if Taobao had an old URL like "taobaomayun" during its inception, failing to update the URL after its rise would inevitably lead to a series of unnecessary troubles.
From this perspective, VOOPOO's investment of $305,000 to update to a domain name that is most closely aligned with its brand is a proactive measure to clear obstacles for future growth.
In other words, VOOPOO is confident about its future and the future of the electronic cigarette industry.
