Five Ways to Clean a Dirty Vape Atomizer
I have seen many e-cigarette users say that the flavor of e-cigarettes becomes sweet, and that the atomizer changes color after prolonged use. For personal hygiene and to ensure the flavor remains pure, remember to clean the atomizer regularly! Here are some tips for cleaning:
Even if you change the coil head, the last flavor may still linger in your device. This is especially true for flavors like tobacco, coffee, menthol, cinnamon, melon, grape, and licorice. Just imagine your grape-flavored coffee vape liquid.
Don’t worry. In this guide, we will provide you with the five best ways to eliminate this issue. Fortunately, most tanks are easy to clean if you know the right steps. We will start with standard rinsing methods and move on to more advanced techniques, so let’s get started!
1. Standard Rinse
This is the most basic and common cleaning method for containers. First, you need to disassemble the atomizer. You can also carefully remove the O-ring to get rid of any lingering old flavors. Just be careful not to lose it!
Note: If you are using a replaceable coil head device, you need to remove it before cleaning the coil head. If the coil head is in good condition, it can be reused, but to completely eliminate previous flavors, you must install a new brand new coil head.
Fill a cup or bowl with water and microwave it for about 2 minutes. Meanwhile, rinse the parts of the tank that you have disassembled to start the process. Then, take the cup or bowl out and disassemble the tank from the liquid.
Let it sit until it cools down, then give your tank a final rinse. Gently and carefully dry it with a paper towel. Let it sit until completely dry. You can also use a hairdryer to blow dry the moisture, but excessive heat may damage the O-ring.
Note: You can also use a small brush to clean the vape atomizer thoroughly. We have attachments on our website priced under 2, especially for cleaning e-cigarette boxes and gear. A children's toothbrush is also inexpensive and suitable for this application.
2. Soaking in PG/VG. A Deep Clean You Can Learn
If you don’t want to use plain water, you can soak your atomizer in propylene glycol (PG). Fill your bowl or cup with pure PG and let it dissolve. You can also use VG, but it’s harder to clean because it’s a relatively thick liquid.
Once the tank has soaked in PG, standing it on a paper towel to let it drip dry is an excellent way to remove any remaining flavors.
3. Vinegar, Baking Soda, and Ethanol (Oh!)
You can substitute PG/VG with some things you might already have at home.
Vinegar is a highly acidic cleaner, but it must be rinsed thoroughly to prevent any lingering odors. Baking soda is another great cleaner that can help the atomizer foam up again.
Ethanol, aka ethyl alcohol, is another very effective cleaning agent. Don’t confuse this with isopropyl alcohol. You can find a large bottle of this at your local liquor store.
Preferably, some vapers use a bit of dish soap mixed with water or lemon juice instead. As long as you have all these substances, they are highly effective at cleaning your vape.
4. Ultrasonic Cleaner. Meet Your New Friend
If you want to achieve the most thorough cleaning possible for your vape atomizer, you need an ultrasonic cleaner. Typically used for cleaning jewelry and precious metals, ultrasonic cleaners are now being used by vapers to clean their atomizers. Now you can be a coil-making master!
You don’t need to make electronic files with ultrasonic cleaners; they are all the same. But if you are serious about your gear, especially if you have a lot, then this is for you.
We recommend using an ultrasonic cleaner with a timer, not exceeding 5 minutes.
5. Chucking the Coil
If you’ve tried the above methods and the flavor still doesn’t pop, it’s time to change that pesky coil head. If you’re tired of it, you might want to consider rebuildables. Just follow #1, and with fresh coils, you can move on.
If you are using a removable atomizer, don’t forget those coil slots. Try removing the cotton, burning off the remaining juice, and giving them a good rinse. E-cigarette accessories (or a toothbrush) will do the trick. OK, now your vape is clean!
Conclusion
There are many great vape tanks to clean; clean as you wish, depending on how much time you have. Ultrasonic cleaners work wonders, but they are also time-consuming. Vinegar, baking soda, and soap work, but sometimes a good rinse is necessary.
Try these different experimental methods and see which one works for you. We know how to make them work for you, which one do you prefer?
