On February 18, news reports indicated that the Danville City Council in Illinois, USA, is set to review and ultimately pass a new regulation to regulate vaping products in Danville, following a more lenient policy proposed by city staff two weeks prior.

According to City Attorney Robert Ewing, council members unanimously approved the new e-cigarette regulations during a public hearing on February 4, but they modified the initial proposal after hearing testimony from residents and debating that evening.

The ordinance supported by the council retains the proposal to ban the sale of vaping devices and e-liquids throughout the town, but council members disagreed with the suggestion to prohibit the sale of all flavored tobacco products within the town.

Instead, they opted to strengthen regulations on flavored tobacco by adding flavored tobacco products to existing advertising, distribution, and display rules, without completely banning sales.

The version of the ordinance was first published on February 4 and was finalized for adoption on Tuesday night, marking a two-step process.

The second reading of the e-cigarette ordinance was listed as part of the council's seven-item consent agenda, which is considered a routine collection of items and was immediately voted on unless pulled for separate consideration.
