Smoking Harms Cardiovascular Health, and Vaping Is No Exception
Smoking is a major risk factor for cardiovascular and lung disease, and research suggests vaping is not risk-free either, with increased arterial stiffness seen in users.
Smoking is a major cause of non-communicable diseases globally and a significant risk factor for cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. Recently, the University Medical Center Mainz in Germany compared the health and cardiovascular risks of smoking cigarettes, vaping, and using water pipes for the first time. The results showed that compared to non-smokers, smoking cigarettes increases the risk of atherosclerosis by 10%, using water pipes increases it by 9%, and vaping increases it by 7%. Atherosclerosis is an important prognostic indicator for heart disease and stroke, so regardless of the type of smoking, cardiovascular health is adversely affected.
