Medical Experts Advise Vaping Users to Clean Their Mouthpieces Regularly

Medical experts recommend that vaping users clean device mouthpieces regularly to help maintain hygiene and reduce potential oral health risks.

Due to concerns that harmful bacteria may enter the body from the mouth, medical experts warn that improper cleaning of e-cigarettes could pose hygiene issues for users.

Suzi Gage, a university scholar studying recreational drug use, stated that moisture associated with inhaling vapor may harbor bacteria. She suggested that if e-cigarettes or mouthpieces are not cleaned regularly enough, it could lead to illness for users.

Gage noted that little is known about the health risks of nicotine. She said: "We know what the health hazards of tobacco are; it includes tar, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, heavy metals, and dozens or even hundreds of carcinogens found in tobacco."

"These substances either do not exist in e-cigarettes, as they do not contain tobacco, or they may exist but at levels lower than in cigarettes. Now, this does not mean that e-cigarettes are harmless, as inhaling heated vapor may pose other risks that we do not yet know about.

"For example, moisture associated with vapor may harbor bacteria, especially when these devices are reused rather than used once like cigarettes. If you are an e-cigarette user, consider how often you clean the mouthpiece you put in your mouth."
