Daxing Airport: Woman Detained 5 Days for Using Disposable Vape on Plane

A woman was reportedly detained for five days after using a disposable vape on an aircraft, underscoring enforcement of anti-vaping rules during flights.

According to a short video posted by the legal news account on Douyin, on June 1, the first night after flights resumed at Beijing Daxing Airport, a female passenger on a flight from Hanzhong to Beijing was detained for 5 days by airport police for using an electronic cigarette on the plane.

According to the crew members in the video, as the plane was about to land, they discovered a woman smoking an electronic cigarette in her seat during a routine safety check, and they immediately stopped her and reported her to the airport police.

During police questioning, the woman claimed she was unaware that using electronic cigarettes was prohibited on the plane, and she admitted her mistake, apologizing to the police and crew members.

According to the regulations of the "Civil Aviation Administration of China Public Security Bureau on Maintaining Civil Aviation Order and Ensuring Aviation Transport Safety," as well as the "Public Security Administration Punishment Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Civil Aviation Security Regulations of the People's Republic of China," the use of all tobacco products (including electronic cigarettes) is strictly prohibited on airplanes.

Additionally, the smoke from electronic cigarettes can trigger smoke detectors on the plane, and if not confirmed within a short time, the plane may have to make an emergency landing at a nearby airport, posing a danger.

Ultimately, the woman was administratively detained for 5 days by airport police for disturbing the order on public transport.
