Kentucky Launches Free Text Service Warning Ages 13-24 About Vaping
Kentucky has launched a free text service warning people aged 13-24 about vaping. The program comes amid federal and state efforts to curb youth vaping, including higher legal age limits and flavored product restrictions.
Last September, the Trump administration announced plans to ban flavored vaping products nationwide. However, a few weeks later, Trump’s comments suggested a change in strategy, as he mentioned raising the legal age for e-cigarettes to 21 in order to prevent youth vaping.
At the same time, amid partial restrictions on flavors already in place, both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate also passed age-limit provisions. Trump is expected to sign them into law in the coming months as part of a broader spending package.
This is quitting vaping
To this end, Kentucky’s DPH launched “This Is Quitting,” hoping that Trump’s “Tobacco 21” legislation would encourage many young users to try quitting, and that once they do, they will be able to turn to the program for help. The program is aimed at young people aged 13 to 24 and is tailored by age group to provide appropriate guidance on quitting e-cigarettes.
