FDA Warns Vaping Poses a Public Health Threat to Young People
A large amount of research and evidence from consumers supports that e-cigarettes can make quitting smoking easier. However, others have a different view: the use of e-cigarettes may make smokers more likely to continue using traditional cigarette products, possibly because they maintain a habit of consuming nicotine. At the same time, e-cigarettes are not FDA-approved smoking cessation devices.
Finally, the FDA's primary concern is how to prevent young people from using e-cigarettes. According to data from the U.S. federal government statistics department, the number of teenagers using e-cigarettes has surged: it is most popular among high school students. Starting in September, the FDA has intensified its regulation of e-cigarette sales.
In this regard, the former head of the FDA stated that the use of e-cigarettes among teenagers is an "epidemic" and that "from a public health perspective, this is simply intolerable."
