According to the Saudi Gazette, Saudi Arabia has issued a ban prohibiting tobacco shops from opening within 500 meters of schools and mosques.
The ban applies to all shops that sell tobacco products and accessories, including cigarettes, hookah, and e-cigarettes. The Ministry of Municipal and Housing said that obtaining a retail license for tobacco products requires a valid commercial registration, approval from the Civil Defense, and full compliance with the Municipal Licensing Procedures Law and its executive regulations.
Tobacco products and their derivatives must also comply with the standard specifications approved by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA). These products may not be discounted or given away as gifts, prizes, or free samples. It is prohibited to import, sell, or provide any products that promote tobacco or its derivatives.
The requirements for selling tobacco in Saudi Arabia are highly specific, covering space and building requirements as well as advertising rules.
