China’s total tobacco exports exceeded US$9.1 billion in 2023, up 22.2% year on year
China’s tobacco exports recorded strong growth in 2023, with total exports reaching US$9.173 billion, up 22.2% year on year. Among them, flue-cured tobacco exports amounted to US$382 million, while cigarette exports reached US$280 million.
According to data released by the General Administration of Customs and obtained by 2FIRSTS, China’s tobacco exports grew strongly in 2023, reaching a total of US$9.173 billion, up 22.2% year on year. Calculated in RMB, the total reached RMB 64.595 billion, up 28.33% year on year.
Breakdown data show that flue-cured tobacco exports amounted to US$382 million, down 14.61% year on year, or RMB 2.683 billion, down 9.75% in RMB terms. Meanwhile, cigarette exports reached US$280 million, up 106.47% year on year, or RMB 1.984 billion, up 116.53% in RMB terms.
In terms of volume, flue-cured tobacco exports in 2023 were about 100,000 tons, down 28.17% year on year. Cigarette export volume reached 19,400 tons, up 44.01%, while the number of cigarette cartons exported totaled 83.92 million, up 36.62% year on year.
