Cavell to appoint Hopkins as CEO and president
A former executive from Altria has been appointed as the CEO and president of Kaival Brands Innovations Group, Inc. The company announced the expansion of Barry Hopkins' role as executive chairman to include these two additional positions.
Former CEO and president Eric Mosser has been appointed as the CEO and president of Kaival Brands International, a subsidiary of Kaival Brands Innovations Group, which has an international licensing agreement with Philip Morris International Inc.'s wholly-owned subsidiary, Philip Morris Products.
Kaival Brands founder and chief scientific officer Niraj Patel stated that he envisioned a diversified platform from the beginning that could "capture the upward momentum generated by the company's core product, the BIDI Stick electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS)."
Patel said in a press release, "Barry understands this vision and the importance of compliance and preventing youth access. Since joining Kaival Brands, he has excelled in taking on increasing responsibilities, leveraging his decades of experience in managing our industry. His appointment as interim CEO and president is a natural progression, and we look forward to further expanding our outstanding management team in 2024 by hiring a permanent CEO and/or president based on our needs."
"It is particularly important to have Barry in this role now as we are at a critical juncture, and we still hope the FDA will complete its review of the pending premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) for the tobacco-flavored BIDI Stick Classic soon. If we receive an order permitting marketing for this product, we will have significant momentum in the new year to continue transitioning adult smokers, driving revenue growth, and developing our company."
According to a recent announcement from the FDA, the agency's next status report on the review of pending PMTAs for major brands and market-leading ENDS products will be submitted to the U.S. District Court in Maryland by January 22, 2024.
Although the FDA has not publicly stated which PMTAs it is prioritizing, Kaival Brands hopes that the BIDI Stick Classic will be included in the status report in January. According to Patel, the company also expects that PMTAs for ten other BIDI brands will continue to undergo scientific review.
Recently, Kaival Brands has been encouraged by the coordinated efforts of the FDA, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and other government agencies to strengthen enforcement. The company believes that the proliferation of illegal e-cigarette products in the market has harmed it and is now preparing to scale up alongside other legal products, assuming that enforcement continues to strengthen in conjunction with the FDA's announcement in January.
Hopkins will lead the company under the guidance of the board, continuing to focus on accelerating revenue growth, improving operational efficiency, and executing Kaival Brands' strategic growth and diversification plans while remaining compliant with applicable state and federal regulations.
The company, along with BIDI Vapor (the manufacturer of BIDI Stick), also continues to work with Philip Morris to accelerate the international distribution of ENDS products using BIDI technology (promoted by Philip Morris under the "VEEV Now" brand) as part of Philip Morris's plan for a smoke-free future.
