University Hospital Southampton Removes Smoking Shelters in Move Toward Smoke-Free Campus
University Hospital Southampton in the UK is moving toward becoming a smoke-free site and has begun removing smoking shelters as part of its efforts to create a smoke-free environment.
News flash: According to the latest report from the Daily Echo, University Hospital Southampton has confirmed that it will soon begin work to remove its smoking shelters. As part of an initiative aimed at creating a smoke-free environment, the hospital has made clear that the shelters will be taken away in the near future.
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust said it has signed the NHS pledge to become smoke-free by April 2024.
A hospital spokesperson wrote on Facebook: “As we work toward becoming a smoke-free site by April 2024, we will soon begin removing the smoking shelters across the UHS site.
“Our tobacco dependency team is supporting inpatients who smoke. They can prescribe nicotine replacement therapy as well as other stop-smoking medications.
