Seattle Public Schools has reached a settlement with e-cigarette companies, with $1.75 million allocated for youth health education and smoking cessation programs.

According to a report by US media KUOW on December 18, four years ago, Seattle Public Schools, along with school districts nationwide, filed a lawsuit against JUUL and other e-cigarette companies. They claimed these companies intentionally targeted children in their advertising and product design, leading to a sharp increase in youth smoking and nicotine addiction.

After four years of legal proceedings, the outcome of the lawsuit has been announced. The school board accepted a settlement payment of $1.75 million, which will be paid to the schools in installments over the next four years. According to the settlement agreement, this money must be used for compensation or remediation. The school district stated that this funding will be part of a comprehensive strategy to combat youth smoking, including prevention, early intervention, and cessation methods.

The district also indicated that this funding may also be used to address mental health issues that could lead to student smoking. It is reported that Seattle will receive the first payment of $750,000 from JUUL this month.
